"I will participate in the National Swedish STEM Conference 2024 in Malmo. This event brings together triple helix parties – government, industry and education – to work on a shared vision for the future. In recent years, Swedish parties, with help and insights from EU STEM Coalition, Platform Talent for Technology (PTvT) and other European partners such as the Flemish STEM Platform and VLAIO - Flanders Innovation & Entrepreneurship and zdi, among others, have been working together.

North Rhine-Westphalia | Zukunft durch Innovation MINTvernetzt, worked on a national strategy to strengthen STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) as a foundation for innovation, competitiveness and sustainable development in Sweden.

I look forward to experiencing these inspiring days and translating the insights gained into concrete actions that contribute to strengthening STEM in Europa. Together, we are building a future in which innovation and sustainable growth are key."

Speakers and sessions:

The conference offers an interesting series of speakers and sessions: Mats Persson, Swedish Minister of Labour and Integration, presents the national approach to better match STEM skills with the needs of the labour market.
Marie Nilsson (Chairman IF Metall) and Pia Sandvik (CEO Teknikföretagen) highlight the role of employers and trade unions in this transition.
International experts such as Guro Rørvik (Nasjonalt Senter for Realfagsrekruttering) and Mikkel Bohm (Denmark) share valuable lessons from other European contexts.

In addition to the plenary sessions, the conference offers interactive seminars that focus on specific challenges and opportunities:
- Making STEM more attractive: How do we increase interest in STEM, especially among girls and underrepresented groups? Researcher Dr. Ulrika Sultan (University of Örebro) shares her findings.
- Hybrid learning: Inspiring examples of how theory and practice are successfully combined, presented by the Perstorp Technical Gymnasium, among others.
- Reskilling and upskilling: Practical cases such as the Mind the Gap project, which helps companies develop strategic skills.

The conference emphasises the importance of collaboration between industry, education and policy makers. Through international knowledge exchange and joint efforts, we in Europe do not have to keep reinventing the wheel. This allows us to make faster progress and achieve more impact.
