Bringing quantum algorithms into the STEM classroom

How can students explore quantum computing without first becoming programmers? This Science on Stage Europe webinar introduces a classroom-ready teaching unit that makes the principles and potential of quantum algorithms accessible to upper secondary students.

The session focuses on The Supremacy of Quantum Algorithms, part of the Quantum Computing in STEM Education teaching materials. Through activities involving linear search, binary search and factorisation, students can explore how quantum algorithms differ from classical approaches and why they can offer significant speed advantages.

The teaching unit requires no previous programming experience. It combines unplugged classroom activities with optional Python-based extensions for computer science students, making it suitable for different levels and STEM subjects. The webinar is particularly aimed at mathematics and computer science teachers, but is open to anyone interested in bringing quantum computing into the classroom.

The session will be presented by computer science teacher Sam Robbins, one of the authors of the teaching materials. Participation is free of charge and participants can receive a certificate of participation.
