Best practice and objectives
SEMI coordinates two European projects aimed at improving the skills and inclusivity in the semiconductor industry. The European Chips Skills Academy (ECSA) develops courses and educational materials on a wide range of STEM topics and pilots hands-on educational activities such as summer schools, student fora, tours of company facilities, interviews with professionals, and so on.
The European Chips Diversity Alliance (ECDA) is an innovative and robust partnership between academia and industry in the microelectronics sector to enhance diversity, equity, and inclusion and to lower barriers to participation for under-represented groups.
In addition, SEMI Europe has rolled out High Tech U, which provides kits and training to teach STEM skills such as programming to grade school students and 20 under 30, an award program which spotlights and connects young professionals in the industry.
Reach
ESCA engaged roughly 500-700 people in 2024. The main target groups included university students, secondary school students, young professionals. 20 under 30 is awarded to 20 young professionals each year at SEMICON Europa which reaches over 8,000 attendees.
ECSA and ECDA are funded under Erasmus+, SEMI activities are largely funded through corporate sponsorships.
