Background:
The current national STEM strategy of the Norwegian government expires in 2020. In addition, several key-competences in the field of (STEM) education will be shifted to regional/local authorities in the same period. Several models focused on addressing the strong regional differences and ongoing shortages in the field of STEM are currently being explored.
Objectives:
To evaluate the feasibility of the Dutch / Danish 'Technology Pact'-model, and assess its suitability as a possible follow-up to Norway's current national STEM strategy.
Results:
A group of key-stakeholders (including all labour unions) have tasked the Norwegian national STEM platform with petitioning the government to further explore the Technology Pact model as a possible follow-up strategy for Norway.
Due to a series of unanticipated events, including a cabinet crisis in fall 2018 after the info meeting and reorganization in both NCR and the Ministry of Education and Education, the work with this taskforce was paused. Meanwhile, further information and new partners and models for a national STEM strategy have emerged and considered by NCR. It was therefore decided to close the Technology Pact taskforce and start a new one based on the experiences made.
