Background: The Estonian Research Council has been tasked by the government of Estonia to coordinate a wide range of STEM learning and promotion activities throughout the education chain. The ERC is currently in the process of developing its long-term strategic vision for the upcoming programming period (2023 - 2029), with special focus on non-formal learning activities (e.g STEM hobby groups and camps, out-of-school activities, etc.) as a means to popularise STEM education and careers and improve learning outcomes.
Objectives: The objective of the taskforce is to collect and assess international best-practices, insights and research to inform the ERC's upcoming strategic vision (2023 - 2029), with special focus on non-formal STEM learning activities. The main focus of the taskforce will be on (1) the impact of non-formal learning activities on student decision-making and performance and related monitoring approaches and (2) the development of school-company partnerships in secondary education.
Results: In the short term the taskforce will produce an overview of best-practices, insights and recommendations from selected countries (Norway, Denmark, Gernany, the Netherlands). These will be used to inform the preparation of ERC's strategic vision 2023-2029.
A first taskforce meeting has been scheduled for September 9.
